Jack Cowin's Art Born in Indiana, Jack Cowin lives the life of an artist with a love for the outdoors. Cowin's appreciation of the natural world was grounded at an early age with his interests in hunting and fly-fishing. His artistic talents were first discovered at Indiana University where he won several awards in printmaking: Glendale Competition for Indiana Arts, Walcott Award in Watercolor, Chapel Hill Print Competition. Cowin was elected to the prestigious Smithsonian Guild of Natural Science Illustrators in 1977. His prolific portfolio has been the subject of 19 solo exhibitions and 39 group exhibitions in the United States, Canada, and Europe. His work is collected by international museums (Hokkaido Museum, Tokyo, American Museum of Flyfishing et. al), universities, corporations (Microsoft™, Abercrombie & Fitch™ et.al). His etchings have been published in numerous books and leading outdoor magazines. Cowin's academic home is at the University of Regina, where he is a Professor in the Department of Visual Arts. His philanthropic work has benefited organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Pheasants Forever. When not in the studio, Cowin can be found enjoying the outdoors with his beautiful wife Mary, and two sons Noah and Jeremiah. All etchings produced are hand colored by Cowin, thus each series is limited in number. Available etchings are detailed below. Commissioned works - Ernest Hemingway portfolio and Zane Gray portfolio - are available. Please inquire. All artwork purchased in Saskatchewan must be handled through Susan Whitney Gallery, Regina.
